Program Description

The program emphasizes practical translation in various fields and aims to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and Spanish-speaking countries.

Graduates are trained to achieve high-level professional competencies, including:
  • Bilingual Proficiency: Achieving speed, accuracy, and fidelity in translating complex texts from Spanish to Arabic and vice versa.
  • Specialized Translation Skills: Mastery of translating specialized materials in fields such as economics, law, politics, and religion, with a specific focus on navigating unique Islamic terminology.
  • Oral Interpretation: Proficiency in consecutive and bilateral interpreting, overcoming linguistic, cultural, and psychological barriers to convey meaning accurately in real-time.
  • Stylistic & Literary Analysis: Ability to recognize and employ expressive devices—such as rhetoric, metaphor, and imagery—in both translated and original Spanish texts.
  • Research & Project Management: Completion of a final graduation project where students translate a full work or conduct research that serves the local community or workplace.
  • Technological & Dictionary Skills: Proficiency in using specialized general and technical dictionaries and modern translation software.
  • Academic Qualification: A high school diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution is required.
  • Grade Point Average (GPA): Admission is highly competitive; most programs at KSU typically require a minimum secondary school GPA of 90% or higher for strong consideration.
  • Standardized Testing:
    • General Aptitude Test (GAT): Mandatory for Saudi nationals, assessing verbal and quantitative skills.
    • Achievement Test (SAAT): Often required to evaluate knowledge in specific subject areas.
  • Common First Year (CFY): Students are generally admitted to the Humanities Colleges Track for their first year. Progression into the Japanese major occurs after completing the CFY, with placement based on academic performance and available seats.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must typically be under 25 years of age at the time of application.
  • Departmental Approval: Certain departments may require a written examination or interview to assess suitability for the language program.
