Program Description

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program provides comprehensive training in women’s health care, pregnancy and childbirth, gynecologic surgery.

By the end of their training, residents are expected to:

  1. Acquire a compassionate understanding of the clinical problems encountered by female patients of all ages.
  2. Generate a complete and accurate patient history.
  3. Perform thorough and accurate physical examinations.
  4. Recognize significant non-gynecological disease encountered in women of all ages for referral to appropriate specialty physicians.
  5. Recognize the physiological changes during normal pregnancy and provide caring and safe management for patients with normal pregnancy.
  6. Recognize the significant complications of pregnancy and be able to manage them appropriately.
  7. Perform obstetrics operations adeptly and with proper indications.
  8. Provide appropriate advice for the management of patients with complaints.
  9. Recognize problems of sexual adjustment and provide appropriate advice for the management of patients with complaints.
  10. Recognize the symptoms of gynecologic disorders and be able to discriminate among the conditions included in the differential diagnosis.
  11. Provide appropriate medical or surgical care for patients with gynecological diseases.
  12. Appropriately evaluate patients with endocrine or infertility problems and carry out indicated medical or surgical treatment.
  13. Recognize the symptoms and signs of gynecologic malignancies, carry out the procedures necessary to make an accurate diagnosis, and either treat appropriately or refer to consultants.
  14. Practice continuous self-education.

Medical diploma, certified secondary school certificate, official updated university transcript, passing colloquium exam for Lebanese, IFOM exam, 3 recommendation letters, personal interview.

The program provides a broad scope of training, covering:
  • Obstetrics: Safe motherhood (preconception counseling, antenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and post-abortion care), management of normal and complicated pregnancies, and obstetrical operations.
  • Gynecology: Family planning, reproductive morbidity, gynecological cancers, menopause, treatment of infertility, general gynecology, and urogynecology.
  • Newborn Care: Rotations also include exposure to the healthcare of the newborn as a vital part of Maternal and Child Health (MCH).
