Program Description

The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics program seeks to prepare academically distinguished graduates and researchers in applied linguistics by providing its students with a supportive learning and educational (academic) environment. 

Graduates of the program are expected to achieve specific competencies categorized by knowledge, skills, and values:
  • Advanced Theoretical Knowledge: Demonstrate a deep understanding of core linguistic concepts and how they apply to real-world language issues.
  • Research Proficiency: Master optimal linguistic research methods and use modern statistical programs for data analysis in education and language training.
  • Material Design & Evaluation: Gain the ability to organize, evaluate, and build innovative educational materials and language assessment programs.
  • Problem-Solving: Qualify to identify and propose solutions for society’s linguistic problems, including language policy and planning.
  • Technological Integration: Effectively utilize new technical developments, such as corpus linguistics software and digital educational tools, in research and teaching.
  • Professional Ethics: Uphold high standards of integrity and responsibility in both academic research and professional linguistic practice.

-Holding a full-time bachelor’s degree in English, English Language and Literature, or related fields such as Translation or TESOL, from an accredited university. Distance learning degrees are not accepted.

-Achieving a cumulative GPA of at least “Very Good” (3.75 out of 5.0).

-Obtaining a score of at least 65 on the GAT or a total of 265 on the GRE-General test.

-Demonstrating English proficiency with an overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5 (or equivalent TOEFL-iBT) and a minimum writing score of 5.5 (or 20 on TOEFL-iBT).

-Passing a departmental written entrance examination.

-Submitting two academic letters of recommendation.
