Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sport Sciences and Physical Activity with a track in Sports and Recreation Management at King Saud University is a research-focused program designed to produce academic and professional leaders for Saudi Arabia’s evolving sports sector.

Knowledge and Comprehension:

o Gaining in-depth knowledge in the fields of sport sciences and physical activity and their applications

o Supporting and developing the fields of sport sciences and physical activity in accordance with the global academic development in these fields

o Understanding the ethics of scientific research and how to apply them using scientific evidence

o Familiarity with emerging issues in the fields of sport and physical activity sciences and potential challenges to these issues in relation to current practices and generally accepted outcomes

o Being able to analyze and critique theories and research in related fields and contributing to adding new knowledge and interpreting it primarily for professional practice

o Understanding and evaluating the statistical analysis tools necessary to conduct distinguished original research

B- Mental Skills:

o The ability to think critically and creatively in analyzing and evaluating information in the fields of sport sciences and physical activity

o The ability to propose solutions to problems relevant to the fields of sport sciences and physical activity

o The ability to evaluate scientific reports and research in the fields of sports sciences and physical activity

o The ability to design advanced research and development projects to address complex sports issues
o Acquiring the skills of persuasion and scientific description as well as preparing and presenting research findings

o The ability to plan, implement and evaluate sports and entertainment programs and prepare technical advisory recommendations

o The ability to use modern technologies and methods to improve professional practices in the fields of sport sciences and physical activity

o Being able to work in research teams in a variety of disciplines in the fields of sport sciences and physical activity

o Effective communication with the relevant institutions and authorities and interacting with them in appropriate ways according to professional ethics

1. The applicant must have a master’s degree in physical education, movement sciences, sports training, or sports and recreation management from King Saud University or any university accredited by the Ministry of Education with a minimum of a “Very Good” GPA or equivalent.

2. The applicant must pass the written test conducted by the Joint Program Council.
