Program Description

The Bachelor of English Language and Translation at King Saud University (KSU) is a professional program designed to meet the growing national demand for skilled linguists and interpreters in both the public and private sectors.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Bilingual Communication: Mastery of both English and Arabic, including the ability to communicate professionally in diverse oral and written contexts.

Specialized Translation: Ability to translate and interpret between source and target languages across specialized fields such as legal, political, scientific, and technical sectors.

Linguistic Analysis: Professional understanding of language systems, including syntax, morphology, and semantics in both languages to handle complex linguistic phenomena.

Theoretical Knowledge: Mastery of various theories, strategies, and approaches to translation and interpretation to solve practical translation problems.

Technological Integration: Proficiency in using computer-aided translation (CAT) tools, translation memory software, and modern research technologies.

Cultural Awareness: Ability to differentiate between main cultures associated with the English language and apply this cultural sensitivity to ensure accurate meaning transfer.

Professional Ethics: Adherence to the ethical standards of the translation profession and a commitment to personal and societal values.

Scientific Research: Capability to conduct basic scientific research within the field of translation and linguistics.

Common First Year (CFY): Successful completion of the Common First Year in the Humanities track.

STEP Test: A minimum score of 65 in the Standardized Test of English Proficiency (STEP) is required to enter the department after the first year.

Composite Score: Admission is highly competitive and based on a composite score derived from:
High School GPA.
General Aptitude Test (GAT/Qudrat).
Achievement Test (Tahsili).

Arabic Proficiency: Non-native speakers may be required to pass an Arabic Language Proficiency exam or complete a preparatory diploma before starting the bachelor’s program.
