Program Description

Polymers are generally produced by chemical conversion of primary or intermediate petrochemicals through a process called polymerization. Polymers are widely used in the production of plastics, fibers, and synthetic rubber. The degree awarded is Master of Science in Polymer Science.

Graduates from these programs are expected to achieve advanced competencies in:

Fundamental Principles: Deep understanding of polymerization mechanisms, kinetics, and the relationship between chemical structure and physical properties.

Technical Characterization: Proficiency in advanced characterization techniques, including thermal analysis, spectroscopy, and rheology.

Industrial Application: Ability to apply modeling and simulation tools to optimize polymer synthesis and processing operations (e.g., extrusion and injection molding).

Research & Innovation: Competence in conducting independent scientific research and developing creative solutions for complex material challenges in the petrochemical and manufacturing industries.

Professional Responsibility: Recognition of the ethical and environmental impacts of polymer use, including recycling and sustainable material development.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.

  • Students from other departments may be accepted if they fulfill the admission requirements according to the unified law organizing graduate studies in Saudi universities.

  • Students must pass the admission test and interview conducted by the Chemistry Department.

Twenty-four Credit hours and a Thesis are required.
