Program Description

The Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program provides specialized training in diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat diseases.

By the end of their training, residents are expected to:

  1. Conduct a medical history and perform a physical examination that is appropriate for the ear, nose, and throat clinical problem.
  2. Develop a differential diagnosis and treatment plan for patients with ear, nose, and throat medical or surgical problem.
  3. Acquire the ear, nose, and throat technical skills necessary for operation performance and postoperative follow-up.
  4. Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessment and management of the patient undergoing ear, nose, and throat surgical procedures.
  5. Recognize the characteristics and management of complications associated with Head and Neck surgery procedures.
  6. Demonstrate appropriate clinical decision-making skills.
  7. Describe the pathophysiology, pathology, and the principles of medical and surgical treatment of Tumors of the Head and Neck.
  8. Apply universal safety precautions.
  9. Participate in General surgery Grand Rounds and in Case Review Conferences.
  10. Promote continuous self-learning.

Medical diploma, certified secondary school certificate, official updated university transcript, passing colloquium exam for Lebanese, IFOM exam, 3 recommendation letters, personal interview.

The curriculum focuses on achieving competency in several key areas:
  • Medical Knowledge: Residents learn surgically relevant anatomy of the head and neck, as well as the science behind ENT disorders and their treatment.
  • Patient Care: Training covers providing effective care, including patient histories, physical exams, diagnosis, and treatment planning for various ENT conditions.
  • Surgical Skills: Residents gain technical proficiency in surgical procedures, post-operative care, complication management, and assessments.
  • Professional Skills: The program emphasizes communication, practice-based learning, systems-based practice, and professionalism.
