Program Description

King Saud University Department of Geology, which is one of the departments of the College of Science, was founded in 1958. The Department, upon successfully celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2008, expanded to incorporate the Geophysics teaching curriculum and was renamed as the Department of Geology and Geophysics. The Department has achieved diversification of teaching and research programs at the University in order to cater to the needs of an ever-increasing number of qualified earth science graduates in the Kingdom.

1) Achieve excellence in higher education in the fields of earth sciences, while working on the quality of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels

2) Developing applied scientific research through projects in the fields of oil and gas, minerals, groundwater, environment and natural hazards.

3) Providing consultations in the field of natural disasters in cooperation with the Seismic Study Center at the university.

4) Ensure the optimal use of resources and modern technology in the fields of earth sciences.

5) Provide a stimulating environment capable of attracting the best students, staff and faculty.

6) Establish partnerships at the local and global levels between academic and industrial/research institutions in the fields of oil and gas, minerals and groundwater exploration, as well as environmental investigations and natural hazards.
