Program Description

Master of Arts in Media Studies and Practice integrates advanced media theory with practical experience, preparing students for leadership in evolving media fields and critical media analysis

By blending media studies, journalism, integrated marketing communication and digital media, the program provides students with critical knowledge and practical skills to navigate the evolving media landscape and excel in their chosen media career. It emphasizes media research, storytelling, creativity and strategic communication, offering specialized knowledge  and training in content creation, documentaries, media campaigns and strategic communications.

Those who meet these requirements but have not completed undergraduate-level courses in media theory and practice may be required to complete remedial courses offered through the Department of Media Communication or at an accredited institution recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Affairs Division.

Required Courses (12/ 6 credit hours)

Students in the thesis option or professional project option must successfully complete all the required courses for a total of 12 credit hours. Students in the course option must successfully complete 6 credit hours in required courses.

  • MSP 501 Media Studies (3 credits)
  • MSP 510 Media Research Methods (3 credits)
  • MSP 599 Master’s Thesis (6 credits) (for students in the thesis option)
  • MSP 598 Professional Project (6 credits) (for students in the professional project option)

Elective Courses (minimum of 18/24 credit hours)

Students in the thesis option or professional project option must successfully complete a minimum of six elective courses (for a minimum of 18 credit hours). Students in the course option must successfully complete a minimum of eight elective courses (for a minimum of 24 credit hours).
