Program Description
Graduates of the program are expected to achieve the following learning outcomes, combining the specific course descriptions with general graduate attributes:
Structural Engineering Skills
- Advanced Structural Analysis: Analyze single and multi-degree-of-freedom structures subject to various excitations, utilizing computational aspects of dynamic analysis.
- Finite Element Formulation: Master the theory and application of the finite element method for trusses, beams, frames, and plane stress/strain problems, including the use of commercial software packages.
- Plasticity and Limit Analysis: Understand general concepts of plasticity, plastic bending, collapse of structures, and limit analysis for the design of steel and multi-story structures, including seismic requirements.
- Design and Materials Knowledge: Develop an in-depth understanding of structural design principles, knowledge of various construction materials, and the ability to apply them effectively in different conditions.
- Problem-Solving: Formulate and solve complex engineering problems by applying advanced principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
Project Management Skills
- Project Lifecycle Management: Gain a foundation in the practice and profession of project management, covering project strategy, stakeholder management, scheduling, cost estimation and control, and change control.
- Construction Law and Contracts: Develop a systematic understanding of relevant building and construction contract law, contract administration, and dispute resolution methods like arbitration.
- Digital Project Management: Learn modern techniques in digital project management, including the use of Common Data Models (CDM) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) with visual programming tools like Revit Dynamo for automation.
- Management and Leadership: Develop management and leadership skills, including strategic planning, team building, and professional ethical judgments in engineering situations.
