Program Description

The Master’s Program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry aims to enhance students’ academic and research skills and to meet the needs of the labor market in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry.

  • Knowledge and Understanding:
    • Mastery of drug design foundations, including the design of future medications that are more effective and less toxic.
    • Advanced understanding of modern synthetic reactions and the mechanisms of drug interaction with biological receptors.
    • Proficiency in structure elucidation using techniques like NMR, Mass, and Infrared spectroscopy.
  • Cognitive and Intellectual Skills:
    • Ability to solve complex drug design problems and synthesize biologically active molecules.
    • Evaluating and interpreting chemical data by linking physical concepts with mathematical expressions.
    • Designing and implementing systematic research plans for medicinal chemistry projects.
  • Professional and Practical Skills:
    • Expert use of analytical separation methods, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
    • Technical proficiency in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), including safety measures and hazardous waste management.
    • Skills in scientific communication, including writing research reports and presenting findings in public seminars.

With adherence to the admission requirements of the unified regulations for graduate studies in Saudi universities. The following is required for the applicant

1- Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the College of Pharmacy at King Saud University or an equivalent degree so that the general grade is very good or the general grade is good and high, provided that a very good grade is obtained in the pharmaceutical chemistry courses.

2- The department can set other conditions, such as studying courses determined by the department, and the student is required to pass them successfully.

3- The applicant must obtain a score of 5.0 in the IELTS test or an equivalent score in the TOEFL examination.

4- The applicant must successfully pass the written examination and the personal interview.

Pharmaceutical Measurements – 3 Credit Hours
Physical Pharmaceutical Chemistry – 3 Credit Hours
Stereochemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds – 3 Credit Hours

First Year – Second Semester

Structural Elucidation Techniques in Medicinal Chemistry – 3 Credit Hours
Medicinal Chemistry Discussion Seminar-1 – 3 Credit Hours
Drug Screening – 3 Credit Hours

Elective Courses (Choose 3 Courses) – 9 Credit Hours

Modern Developments in Electrochemical Analysis – 3 Credit Hours
Modern Spectroscopic Analyses – 3 Credit Hours
New Trends in Chromatography and Separation Techniques – 3 Credit Hours
Automation in Pharmaceutical Analysis – 3 Credit Hours

Graduation Requirements

Passing a Comprehensive Exam (Written and Oral).
