Program Description

It is designed to produce graduates who are not only fluent in Japanese but also skilled in professional translation and intercultural communication.

Upon completing the program, graduates are expected to demonstrate:
  • Advanced Linguistic Proficiency: Mastery of Japanese communication, including the three writing systems (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji) and complex honorific (Keigo) structures.
  • Translation & Interpreting Excellence: The ability to translate specialized texts (technical, economic, and diplomatic) and perform oral interpretation between Japanese and Arabic.
  • Intercultural Competence: A deep understanding of Japanese social norms, business etiquette, and cultural history to facilitate “Japanese for mutual understanding”.
  • Critical Thinking & Research: Competence in using modern linguistic tools and conducting academic research in translation studies.
  • Professional Readiness: Preparedness to enter the labor market as skilled professionals capable of managing international partnerships.
  • Academic Qualification: A high school diploma or equivalent from a recognized institution with a typical minimum GPA of 90% for strong consideration.
  • Standardized Tests:
    • General Aptitude Test (GAT): Required for Saudi nationals.
    • Achievement Test (SAAT): Used in calculating the composite score for competitive track entry.
  • Composite Score: Admission is based on a weighted score of high school GPA, GAT, and SAAT results.
  • Common First Year (CFY): Students typically enter the Humanities Track for the first year. Specialized major selection (Japanese) occurs after successfully completing this year based on academic performance.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must be under 25 years of age at the time of application.
  • Departmental Test: The  College of Humanities and Social Sciences may require students to pass a specific departmental entrance test.
