Program Description

The department’s doctoral program is designed to prepare a new generation of distinguished researchers in communication studies and digital media who are able to provide scientific and research production characterized by originality and innovation, and contribute to serving society and building the knowledge economy, through theoretical and methodological study of the latest productions of Arab and international minds, and in accordance with Arabic and Islamic teachings, values ​​and culture. And at the same time it is linked to the issues of Saudi and Arab society, and meets the required research needs academically and professionally.

  • Theoretical Mastery: Demonstrate a profound understanding of contemporary communication theories and the ability to critique or develop new theoretical frameworks within the digital media landscape.
  • Advanced Research Methodologies: Design and execute complex research projects using high-level quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches suitable for academic publication. KSU Graduate Studies emphasizes producing original contributions to the field.
  • Critical Analysis of Digital Media: Evaluate the societal, political, and ethical impacts of digital transformations and emerging technologies on mass communication in both local and global contexts.
  • Strategic Policy Development: Ability to advise on and develop media policies that align with national development goals (such as Saudi Vision 2030) and international standards.
  • Pedagogical Excellence: Prepare for roles in higher education by developing the skills necessary to teach, mentor, and lead academic departments in the field of journalism and media.
  • Professional Ethics & Leadership: Lead media institutions with a high level of professional integrity, advocating for social responsibility and ethical communication practices.

– The applicant must have a Master’s degree in Communication and Digital Media with specializations: (Journalism, Radio and Television, Public Relations) from King Saud University or its equivalent with a grade of no less than Very Good if it is from a university that grants it with grades.

– The applicant must have a score of no less than (45) in the TOEFL IBT test, (450) in the TOEFL PBT, (4) in the IELTS, or (60) in the STEP.

– Published or accepted for publication of at least one paper in a peer-reviewed journal, whether this research is an extract from a master’s thesis or a new research in the field of communication and digital media.
