Diploma in International Human Rights Law

• Deepen Understanding: Cultivate a comprehensive understanding of human rights law, including legal frameworks, humanitarian law, and their intersection with society, economics, and politics.
• Practical Application: Develop practical skills in investigating, analyzing, and applying human rights standards through case studies and research.
• Legal Expertise: Hone legal research, writing, and presentation skills in English, suitable for advocacy, policy making, and working with NGOs or governmental organizations.
• Critical Thinking: Analyze the role of human rights in addressing global inequalities and challenges.
• Ethical Practice: Engage with the ethical obligations and responsibilities of legal practitioners in the field.

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, acceptable GPA, English proficiency test, one recommendation letter

Requirements
The Graduate Diploma requires 18 credit hours.

There are four required courses:

LAW 509/5209 – International Law (3 cr.)
LAW 510/5210 – Introduction to International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (3 cr.)
And Two out of the following three courses:
LAW 513/5213 – The European System of Human Rights Protection (3 cr.)
LAW 514/5214 – Human Rights in the Middle East (3 cr.)
LAW 519/5219 – Human Rights in Africa (3 cr.)

The remaining two courses are electives. The Law Department’s approval is required for electives offered by other departments.
