Program Description
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program, graduates should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of diverse areas in mathematics such as analysis, algebra, discrete mathematics and applied mathematics
- Construct and effectively communicate valid mathematical arguments
- Demonstrate a solid grounding in the ideas and techniques of mathematics
- Apply mathematical analysis and mathematical skills to problems in other disciplines
- Use discrete mathematical concepts in a variety of contexts such as algorithm development, computer programming and network development and implementation
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and carry out thoughtful approaches to problem solving
- Define and execute simple research tasks as required for professional work
- Formulate a problem in mathematical terms from descriptions written in language specific to disciplines associated with engineering, finance and the natural sciences
- Obtain the research skills necessary to adapt to change and remain current in the field and continue to learn new information, skills and concepts.
For Bachelor: High school diploma with minimum 80% average, English proficiency (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80), SAT test. For Minor: Enrollment in AUS bachelor program with cumulative GPA 2.0 or higher
The program is designed around a core body of knowledge in several key areas:
- Analysis: This includes courses such as Calculus (I, II, and III), Differential Equations, Real Analysis, and Complex Analysis, focusing on the rigorous foundations of calculus and continuous change.
- Algebra: Key subjects include Linear Algebra and Abstract Algebra, which deal with algebraic structures, systems of equations, and vector spaces.
- Discrete Mathematics: This area covers topics essential for computer science and other fields, such as logic, set theory, and algorithm development.
- Applied Mathematics and Statistics: Students learn to apply mathematical skills to problems in other disciplines, including statistics, probability, mathematical modeling, and numerical analysis.
