Program Description

Graphic Design program at the University of Petra prepares students with the fundamental skills to create visual responses to the communication challenges of the contemporary world.

Understanding and Knowledge (K)

  • K1: Recognize and differentiate the concepts, principles, and standards of traditional and digital graphic design, and understand their connection to intellectual, artistic, and applied theories in design.

Intellectual Skills (I)

  • I1: Analyze professional scenarios to solve design-related problems within applied and professional contexts in both traditional and digital graphic design.

  • I2: Apply rational and emotional critical thinking to reach well-reasoned and appropriate conclusions.

  • I3: Classify artistic, scientific, technical, societal, and professional concepts related to design and art, identifying relationships to create effective design work.

Practical and Professional Skills (P)

  • P1: Apply theoretical, research-based, technical, technological, and ethical knowledge in professional practice within traditional and digital graphic design.

  • P2: Evaluate graphic design artworks (traditional and digital) using clear and effective criteria based on topics, functions, and objectives of various design types.

General and Transferable Skills (T)

  • T1: Apply local and global community frameworks while respecting cultural diversity to identify, analyze, and solve professional design problems.

  • T2: Collaborate effectively as a team member, assuming leadership roles when appropriate in traditional and digital graphic design projects.

  • T3: Communicate professionally and effectively with stakeholders, demonstrating social responsibility and accountability.

  • T4: Utilize self-monitoring and self-assessment to identify, analyze, and implement solutions for continuous improvement and lifelong learning.

High school average minimum 60% for Jordanian students and 50% for non-Jordanians.

The Department grants a Bachelor Degree (BA) in Graphic Design. The studying period is 4 years by having 137 credit hours, distributed as follows:

  • 24 Cr as university requirements (compulsory and elective).
  • 24 Cr as faculty requirements (compulsory and elective).
  • 89 Cr departmental requirements (compulsory and elective).
