Program Description

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is a 4-year, full-time professional degree accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education and Engineers Australia via the Washington Accord. It integrates core principles of physics, mathematics, and material science to train students in designing, building, and maintaining automated and sustainable mechanical systems.

Graduates from the UOWD Mechanical Engineering program are equipped to meet global professional standards. Upon completion, students are able to:

1. Core Technical Knowledge

Apply engineering principles underpinning fluid dynamics, machines, structures, processing, and multi-disciplinary conceptual design.

Simulate real-world challenges utilizing sophisticated engineering software, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and system modeling tools.

2. Practical Design & Problem Solving

Design and optimize complex mechanical systems, including automotive powertrains, renewable energy technologies, and HVAC building services.

Measure and analyze performance in laboratory setups using data acquisition tools, physical sensors, and transducers.

Formulate creative solutions to complex, open-ended problems by synthesizing information from relevant disciplinary literature.

3. Professional & Communication Skills

Communicate coherently via written technical reports and verbal industry presentations targeted at diverse audiences.

Work effectively in teams as a collaborative team player and a capable leader while respecting individual accountability.

Practice ethical responsibility by complying with occupational health, safety, environmental, and global sustainability standards.

 

*Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold a certified secondary school certificate matching one of these curriculum-specific minimums:

  • UAE Al-Thanawiyya Al-Aama: Elite Track (75%) OR Advanced Track (80%).
  • British GCE Curriculum: Completion of Year 13 with a minimum of 5 IGCSE/GCSE subjects (Grade D or above) plus 3 A-Level subjects with a minimum grade of “CCD”.
  • American High School Diploma: An overall average grade of C (70% or 2.5/4.0), combined with a minimum SAT score of 1100.
  • India CBSE / ICSE Grade 12: CBSE score of 10.5 (calculated from specific positional grades across English/Hindi and the 4 best subjects) OR an ICSE overall average of 77%.

    International Baccalaureate (IB)
    : A minimum diploma score of 25 points overall.

**English Language Proficiency
International or non-native English speakers must prove proficiency by hitting one of the following testing benchmarks:

  • IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0, with sub-scores of at least 6.0 in Reading and Writing, and 5.0 in Listening and Speaking.
  • TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 79, with minimum sectional marks of 20 in Writing, 18 in Reading, 17 in Listening, and 16 in Speaking.
  • EmSAT English: Minimum score of 1400 (equivalent to standard UAE university entrance models).
