The Department of Physical Education offers a scientifically-based program that has a notable record of improving athletic achievement in Lebanon and the Middle East region. The Department is committed to the improvement of physical performance and disease prevention through offering programs based on internationally recognized research that has practical implications in the field of health and sports. Program Objectives: Prepare PE professionals who are equipped with the theoretical and practical knowledge to pursue a career in the many different fields of sports. Prepare professional coaches and instructors who can organize and manage sports activities.
Program Description
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
– Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
– Demonstrate knowledge of theories of training and teaching PE.
– Teach PE in schools and sports centers.
– Train athletes using effective strategies.
– Organize sports activities in different formal and informal contexts.
– Design and administer physical performance tests.
– Adopt an ethical stand as PE practitioners.
– Apply the goals of the national Lebanese PE curriculum.
Hold a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education, obtain “permission” from the Equivalence Committee for foreign programs, competitive admission based on 50% SAT and 50% grades 10 and 11 averages.
To be eligible for a BA degree in Physical Education (PE) a student must fulfill the following requirements:
• 12 credits in the Cultural Studies Program: CSPR 201, 202, 203 and 204
• 6 credits in the English or French language, FREN 201, and one other higher-level course for francophone students, or ENGL 203 and a higher-level course for anglophone students
• LISP 200
