Program Description

The program is designed to deepen the scientific and technical expertise of engineering graduates in the field of materials behavior and processing.

  • Advanced Technical Skills:
    • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex materials engineering problems using advanced mathematical and scientific principles.
    • Proficiency in systematic materials selection for specific engineering applications, often using specialized tools like the Cambridge Engineering Selector (CES) software.
  • Experimental & Analytical Proficiency:
    • An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze resulting data, and use engineering judgment to draw valid conclusions.
    • Skills in analyzing and evaluating geometrical aspects and indices for material performance.
  • Professional & Ethical Leadership:
    • An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities, considering the global, environmental, and societal impact of engineering solutions.
    • Ability to function effectively in teams that provide leadership and create collaborative environments.
  • Innovation & Knowledge Application:
    • The capacity to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies for lifelong professional development.
    • Capabilities in handling new technical problems and conducting research with potential economic returns.
  • Degree Background: You must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Materials Engineering. Graduates from other engineering disciplines may be considered but might need to take “complementary” undergraduate courses first.
  • GPA Standards: A minimum cumulative grade of “Very Good” (3.75/5.0 or 3.0/4.0) is typically required. According to the KSU Deanship of Graduate Studies applicants with a “High Good” GPA may be considered in exceptional cases.
  • Standardized Tests:
    • General Aptitude Test (PGAT): A score of at least 70 on the Postgraduate General Aptitude Test is generally required for Saudi and resident applicants.
    • English Proficiency: Since the program is taught in English, you must provide a valid score from tests like TOEFL or IELTS (usually a minimum of 5.0 – 5.5 IELTS or equivalent).
  • Recommendations: Submission of two academic letters of recommendation from professors who taught you at the undergraduate level.
