Program Description

The Department of French Language and Literature at the University of Balamand offers this program with two options: French Literature and FLE/S – French as a Foreign and Second Language. Designed for those passionate about French letters, understanding relations to the world, the French language, and new technologies. The program promotes multidisciplinary openness, facilitating access to professional horizons such as teaching French literature, teaching French as a foreign and second language, literary criticism, literary journalism, communication professions, culture and information, publishing and book trades, and research. It emphasizes reflection on aspects, evolution, and powers in literary spaces of a culture, era, or author. The FLE/S option focuses on linguistics in all branches, methods for multilingualism and didactics of foreign and second languages, and use of information and communication technologies (TIC) for teaching French. Beyond solid training in language and literature, it opens to fields like translation, journalism, librarianship, plastic arts, music, and theater through sub-specializations or minors. After obtaining a Master’s, students can pursue doctoral training in literary and/or linguistic domains.
