Program Description

The Marketing, Communication and Advertising Specialization offers an in-depth look into the business aspects of media, marketing, communication and advertising. In addition to learning about the business side of media and media making, you’ll learn about various media and communication strategies and various media making strategies – making you the makers of advertisements and marketing campaigns – rather than mere discussers of such things.

Students who graduate with a Marketing, Communication & Advertising degree will be ready to join the media workforce as marketing specialists, advertising designers, brand managers, or PR specialists. Almost every company in the world today has a marketing department, and many of these departments are placing more emphasis on media marketing, making the skills acquired in this program in high demand. The work you’ve done in the program, the projects you’ve worked on, and most importantly, your professional portfolio, will make you a very employable and in-demand job candidate.

1. Academic Entry Requirements
The admission threshold depends entirely on the high school curriculum you graduated from. Below are the minimum entry requirements for direct entry into the 3-year bachelor program:

UAE National Curriculum (Ministry of Education):

  • Minimum average of 70% for Advanced Stream.
  • Minimum average of 75% for General Stream.

British Curriculum (GCSE / IGCSE / GCE):

Passing 5 O-Level subjects (grades A* to C or 9 to 4) PLUS 2 A-Level subjects (grades A to D).

  • International Baccalaureate (IB):
    • IB Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points overall.

  • Indian & Pakistani Boards (CBSE / ISC / BISE):
    • Completion of the 12th standard with an overall average of 60% to 65%.

  • American High School Diploma:
    • A high school diploma with a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0.

Note: If you fall slightly short of these direct entry grades, you may still be admitted via UOWD’s Integrated Freshman Year, which adds a foundational year to your study plan.

2. English Language Proficiency
As the program is taught completely in English, you must present an official, valid language certificate before starting classes:
  • IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each sub-skill: reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
  • EmSAT English: A minimum score of 1400.
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 79 overall.
3. Mandatory UAE Ministry Equivalency
All students who completed high school outside the UAE, or at private schools inside the UAE following an international curriculum, must secure an Equivalency Certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education.
  • This process verifies that your high school education is equivalent to the UAE high school standards.
  • UOWD allows provisional registration while you obtain this certificate during your first term.
4. Graduation & Program Completion Requirements
To successfully graduate with your Bachelor of Communication and Media degree, you must satisfy the internal academic benchmarks over the course of your studies:
  • Complete 144 Credit Points: Successfully pass all 24 required subjects detailed in your study plan.
  • Maintain Cumulative GPA: Keep a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0 across the entire degree.
