Program Description

The program is designed to produce linguistically proficient graduates who can navigate the complexities of Hebrew for professional, diplomatic, and academic purposes.

Graduates of the program are expected to achieve several key goals and competencies:
  • Professional Translation Skills: Mastery of both written and oral (consecutive and simultaneous) translation across various fields, including economic, legal, political, and media sectors.
  • Advanced Linguistic Proficiency: Ability to read and write extended sentences, analyze complex meanings, and identify main and secondary ideas in diverse Hebrew texts.
  • Scientific Research & Authorship: Competence in conducting linguistic research and contributing to the field of Hebrew translation to serve community and developmental needs.
  • Cultural & Literary Understanding: Familiarity with Hebrew culture, literature, and social nuances to facilitate effective intercultural communication.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in using modern translation technologies and dictionary skills (symbols, abbreviations, cross-references) to enhance professional output.
  • Community Support: Ability to provide linguistic consultations and specialized language courses to national institutions.
Because it’s a specialized major within the College of Language Sciences, the barriers to entry are primarily academic and administrative:
  • Common First Year (CFY): You must first be admitted to and successfully complete the Humanities Track at KSU.
  • GPA Threshold: After the CFY, placement into the Hebrew major is competitive. While the minimum required GPA can fluctuate annually based on demand, you generally need a cumulative GPA of 3.0/5.0 or higher to be considered.
  • Weighted Score: For Saudi nationals, admission is calculated via a composite score:
    • 50% High School GPA.
    • 25% General Aptitude Test (Qudrat).
    • 25% Achievement Test (Tahsili).
  • Language Prerequisite: Since the medium of instruction for core translation courses is Arabic, non-native speakers must demonstrate high proficiency or complete a preparatory Arabic course at KSU.
