Department of Clinical Pharmacy

• Clinical Expertise:
  • Perform comprehensive medication therapy reviews and identify drug-related problems.
  • Design and monitor individualized pharmacotherapeutic plans based on patient-specific data, including renal and hepatic functions.
  • Interpret complex clinical data, laboratory results, and pharmacokinetic profiles to adjust drug dosages for optimal therapeutic effect.

• Critical Thinking & Evidence-Based Practice:
  • Critically evaluate medical and pharmaceutical literature to support clinical decisions.
  • Utilize advanced drug information sources to provide scientifically valid advice to patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Apply principles of pharmacoeconomics to promote cost-effective and rational medication use.

• Research & Professional Skills:
  • Design and execute original clinical research projects in areas such as therapeutic drug monitoring and medication safety.
  • Demonstrate leadership and effective communication within multidisciplinary medical teams during clinical rotations (e.g., ICU, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases).
  • Master skills in patient counseling to improve medication adherence and safety outcomes.

• Ethics & Leadership:
  • Operate within the legal and ethical frameworks of the Saudi healthcare system.
  • Contribute to hospital pharmacy management and the development of clinical pharmacy services in both public and private sectors.

• Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from KSU or an equivalent accredited university.
• GPA Standards:
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of “Very Good” (at least 3.75/5.0 or equivalent) is generally required for health disciplines.
  • Applicants with a lower GPA may be considered if their grades in specialty pharmacy courses are exceptionally high, typically requiring a “Very Good” in those specific subjects.
• Equivalency: Non-KSU degrees must be officially equalized by the Saudi Ministry of Education.
  
• English Proficiency: Before starting the first level of study, students must achieve a minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL-PBT (or 61 on the IBT) or an IELTS score of 5.0 to 6.0, depending on the specific track.
• Aptitude Tests: Some tracks may require a score of at least 265 in the GRE-General test or a specific score in the General Aptitude Test (GAT) for graduates.
• Departmental Exam: Passing a written entrance examination held by the Clinical Pharmacy Department is mandatory for ranking applicants.
  
• Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates must successfully pass a personal interview evaluating their critical thinking and professional communication skills.
• Recommendations: Submission of three recent academic letters of recommendation from professors who have taught the applicant.
• Employer Approval: If currently employed, the applicant must provide a letter of official approval for two years of academic study leave.
• Clinical Training: Some clinical master’s tracks may require proof of a completed one-year pharmacy internship.
