Program Description

The program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in social research, community service, and social welfare. 

1. Knowledge and Understanding
  • Theoretical Foundations: Explain major sociological and social work theories and their application to Saudi society.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of the legal and sharia-based frameworks that regulate social welfare and contemporary issues in Saudi Arabia.
  • Societal Structures: Identify the factors affecting human behavior, social institutions, and the impact of modernization on local and global scales. 
2. Cognitive and Practical Skills
  • Social Research: Conduct scientific research and advisory studies using appropriate methodologies to analyze social phenomena and predict solutions for societal issues.
  • Critical and Creative Thinking: Analyze social issues by identifying biases, questioning assumptions, and evaluating evidence from multiple perspectives.
  • Communication: Use effective interpersonal and professional communication skills to interact with diverse groups and present research findings clearly.
  • Case Management: Apply learned intervention principles to design and implement plans that address individual and community needs.

 3. Values and Professionalism

  • Professional Ethics: Adhere to Islamic values and the professional ethics of social work in both academic and practical work environments.
  • Social Responsibility: Demonstrate a commitment to social justice, community service, and sustainable national development as outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
  • Teamwork and Leadership: Work effectively in collaborative teams and lead social initiatives aimed at improving society’s welfare.
  • Lifelong Learning: Recognize the importance of continuous professional development and keeping up with modern trends in social science methodology. 
  • High School Performance: A high school diploma with a “Very Good” grade or higher (typically 85% or above) is required.
  • Composite Score: Final placement depends on a weighted average of:
    • 30% High School GPA.
    • 30% General Aptitude Test (Qudurat).
    • 40% Subject Achievement Test (Tahsili).
  • Age & Recency: Applicants must usually be between 17 and 25 years old and should have graduated from high school within the last five years.
  • Interviews: Some tracks within the Social Studies department may require passing a personal interview or a departmental written test.
