Program Description

The PhD Program in Applied Arabic Linguistics aims to prepare researchers specialized in teaching and learning Arabic as a second language, with a focus on theoretical and applied aspects. The program includes an in-depth study of second language acquisition issues and modern research methods in the field, as well as exploring the relationship between language and society through directed studies in sociolinguistics.

 Graduates of the program are expected to achieve the following outcomes: 
  • Advanced Research Proficiency: Ability to conduct original, high-quality scientific research in applied linguistics that contributes new knowledge to the field.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to identify complex language learning problems and devise evidence-based solutions grounded in linguistic theory.
  • Technological Integration: Mastery of modern technical trends, including computer-assisted learning (CALL)e-learning, and mobile learning, and their application in Arabic language instruction.
  • Curriculum Development: Expertise to review, evaluate, and develop Arabic language programs and materials in alignment with contemporary teaching requirements.
  • Sociolinguistic Awareness: Understanding the intricate relationship between language and society, including language policy, variation, and sociocultural contexts.
  • Academic Leadership: Qualification to teach graduate-level courses and provide scholarly supervision for university-level theses. 

Master’s degree in Linguistics or related specialties – Very Good GPA or higher – Arabic language proficiency – Pass personal interview.
