Program Description

The Master of Science in Integrated Circuits and Intelligent Systems Design (ICISD) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) prepares graduates for careers in IC design and intelligent hardware systems. The program addresses the evolving technology landscape where the integration of integrated circuits (IC) with intelligent systems, including AI-enabled functionality, is increasingly critical. By bridging traditional integrated circuit design with modern intelligent architectures, the curriculum equips students with multidisciplinary expertise required for hardware and AI-enabled system design. An optional internship offered as part of the program provides direct professional experience and industry exposure.

Hosting Institution

Upon successful completion of the program, students are expected to demonstrate:
  • Engineering Problem Solving: The ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems using advanced principles of science and mathematics.
  • Design & Integration: Mastery in applying engineering design to create hardware solutions (like AI-enabled chips) while considering global, social, and economic factors.
  • Specialized Technical Proficiency: Expertise in core areas including analog and mixed-signal IC design, tensor and GPU fundamentals, and integrated power electronics.
  • Experimental & Data Analysis: Proficiency in conducting appropriate experimentation, analyzing data, and using engineering judgment to draw technical conclusions.
  • Professional Responsibility: A strong recognition of ethical and professional responsibilities within the engineering field.
  • Effective Communication: The ability to communicate complex technical findings effectively to both specialized and general audiences.

Applicants to the master’s programs should have a bachelor’s degree.

Applicants should check the program they are applying for in order to make sure that they have majored in one of the disciplines mentioned under “required field of study: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or related fields.”

Applicants are required to submit a valid IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 79 to demonstrate their proficiency in English.
