Program Description

The Master of Science in Polymer Engineering is designed to bridge the gap between advanced engineering theory and the practical needs of Saudi Arabia’s vast petrochemical and polymer sectors.

Graduates of the program are expected to demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Advanced Engineering Knowledge: Mastery of the fundamental principles governing polymer synthesis, characterization, and the thermodynamics of macromolecular systems.
  • Research & Discovery: The ability to design and conduct original research, including the formulation of hypotheses and the execution of experiments to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skill in using modern engineering tools, simulation software, and laboratory equipment for polymer processing and modeling.
  • Critical Analysis: Advanced capability to interpret experimental data and critique existing literature to improve industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Professional Communication: Effectiveness in communicating technical findings through scientific publications, technical reports, and oral defenses.
  • Industrial Leadership: Understanding the economic and environmental impacts of polymer engineering solutions, preparing graduates for leadership roles in sectors like SABIC.
  • Degree: A Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • GPA: Typically requires a minimum grade of “Good” or higher, though competitive selection often favors a cumulative GPA of 3.75/5.0 (Very Good) or above.
  • English Proficiency: A minimum score of 500 on the TOEFL (Paper-based) or its equivalent (e.g., IELTS or TOEFL iBT) within the last two years.
  • Recommendation Letters: Two letters of recommendation from faculty who have previously taught the applicant.
  • Additional Tests: Submission of a GRE score or passing a departmental admission test is often required.
