Program Description

The Master’s program in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers focuses on the field of Applied Linguistics, with special attention to the methods and approaches of teaching Arabic to this group, preparing its teachers, teaching materials, and instructional techniques.

Graduates are expected to achieve professional competencies in teaching, research, and material development:

Instructional Mastery: Ability to prepare mini-lessons, manage diverse classrooms effectively, and teach all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) at various proficiency levels.

Curriculum & Assessment: Skills in constructing language tests, evaluating existing textbooks, and designing original educational units based on scientific foundations.

Linguistic Analysis: Proficiency in describing levels of linguistic analysis (phonetic, morphological, and syntactic) and identifying learner errors through contrastive analysis.

Technological Integration: Expertise in employing modern educational technologies and computer-assisted language learning (CALL) tools in the classroom.

Research Capacity: Ability to conduct applied linguistic research, including data collection, statistical analysis, and writing scholarly reports.

Cultural Awareness: Knowledge of Islamic culture and civilization to effectively integrate cultural contexts into language instruction.

  • Academic Background: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic (or a relevant discipline like English or Linguistics) from KSU or an accredited university.
  • GPA: A minimum cumulative grade of “Very Good” (typically 3.75/5 or equivalent).
  • Tests & Interviews: Applicants must pass a written entrance examination and a personal interview conducted by the department.
  • Professional Standing: Preference or requirement may be given to those currently serving as teachers of Arabic as a foreign language.
  • Age: Applicants should generally not exceed 35 to 40 years of age.
  • Additional Documents:
    • Two recommendation letters from academic professors.
    • Medical fitness certificate.
    • Full-time commitment to the study program
