Program Description

The Department of Arabic Language has worked on establishing the Master’s Program in Arabic Language and Literature and formulating its curriculum based on the university’s mission and vision, following a mandate from the College of Arts and Sciences. In this endeavor, the department sought the assistance of experts with prominent standing and distinguished roles in preparing academic projects. The program has been titled the Master of Arts in Arabic Language and Literature and branches into three tracks: Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies.

Upon completing the coursework and preparing the thesis, the graduate is expected to be able to:

• Conduct specialized academic research of a high methodological standard.
• Employ higher-order thinking skills to engage with relevant sources of knowledge in their specialization, utilizing various theories.
• Master the application of both classical and contemporary knowledge to serve local, Arab, and Islamic communities.
• Master critical linguistic and literary analysis skills across various literatures.

The admission requirements and regulations are as follows:

• The program accepts students holding a bachelor’s degree from Qatar University with a GPA of no less than (2.8) out of (4) points, or its equivalent from other universities, provided they pass the interview.
• The program accepts students holding a bachelor’s degree from disciplines other than Arabic language from Qatar University with a GPA of no less than (2.8) out of (4) points, or its equivalent from other universities, provided they pass the interview and begin by studying four bridging courses (Bridge) before commencing the master’s program courses according to the chosen track.
