Program Description

The Master of Science in Genomics and Precision Medicine (GPM) program is multidisciplinary and designed to prepare the next generation of professionals and leaders, who will help implement the use of precision and personalized medicine in the healthcare system.

The Master of Science in GPM offers students advanced knowledge and training in state-of-the-art information gathering and analysis technologies in order to integrate “omics” – the branch of biology that deals with data on global changes at the molecular level in patients – with clinical data.

Hosting Institution

By the end of the program, students are expected to:

Master Analysis Technologies: Use state-of-the-art computational and information-gathering tools to analyze large molecular data sets.

Integrate Omics with Clinical Data: Bridge the gap between basic laboratory research and clinical diagnosis to tailor patient treatments.

Apply Genomic Knowledge: Understand the molecular mechanisms behind complex diseases such as Cancer and neurological disorders.

Navigate Ethical & Legal Frameworks: Evaluate the Bioethical and Legal Implications of genomic data and personalized healthcare.

Develop Research Proficiency: Design and execute independent research projects using rigorous scientific thinking and standard research practices.

Applicants seeking admissions to the CHLS graduate programs at HBKU should have a strong academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA out of 4) from a recognized university.

Applicants to the Master of Science in Genomics and Precision Medicine should have a strong background in science and evidence of coursework in biological or medical sciences.

Applicants are required to submit a valid IELTS score of 6.5 or TOEFL score of 79 to demonstrate their proficiency in English.

Program Summary

Total Program Credits: 33 Credit Hours

Elective Specialization Options (9 Credits Total)

Students are required to complete three elective courses (9 credits) from the following areas:

Technological Track: Bioinformatics, Applied Deep Learning, Proteomics in Precision Medicine
Clinical/Biological Track: Pharmacogenomics, Epigenetics, Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer
Ethical/Legal Track: Islamic Bioethics, Healthcare Law

Research Component

The Master’s Thesis (GPM 695) is the core component of the second year. Students conduct original research in advanced laboratory settings, often in collaboration with institutions such as Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) or Qatar Genome. The research typically focuses on integrating multi-omics data with clinical outcomes to advance precision medicine.
