Program Description

The Internal Medicine Residency Program provides comprehensive training in diagnosis and treatment of adult internal diseases.

By the end of their training, residents are expected to:

  1. Perform a complete and appropriate assessment of the patient.
  2. Develop a prioritized differential diagnosis.
  3. Develop an evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
  4. Perform an effective consultation.
  5. Use preventive and therapeutic interventions proficiently.
  6. Pursue independent self-learning and skills development, and continuous medical education.

Medical diploma, certified secondary school certificate, official updated university transcript, passing colloquium exam for Lebanese, IFOM exam, 3 recommendation letters, personal interview.

The internal medicine residency is a three-year training program (PGY-1 to PGY-3) that provides comprehensive training through a combination of hands-on clinical experience and a strong academic foundation in affiliated hospitals.

Key aspects of the curriculum and training include:
  • Core Competencies: Training is based on the ACGME general competencies, including Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Systems-Based Practice, and Professionalism.
  • Clinical Rotations: Residents rotate through various general medicine, intensive care, and specialized clinics and subspecialties (e.g., cardiology, endocrinology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, pulmonology, primary care, nephrology, oncology, rheumatology). This exposure to diverse patient populations and clinical settings ensures a well-rounded experience.
  • Didactic Education: In addition to clinical training, the program includes a structured didactic education schedule, such as lectures, grand rounds, and case review conferences.
  • Skill Development: The program emphasizes developing skills in patient assessment, formulating differential diagnoses, developing evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic plans, performing effective consultations, and using preventive and therapeutic interventions proficiently.
  • Research and Scholarly Activities: Residents are encouraged to participate in scholarly activities to develop an understanding of research techniques, biostatistics, and the ability to critically analyze medical literature.
  • Progressive Responsibility: As residents advance through the program, they are expected to take on progressively greater responsibility and autonomy in patient care and decision-making.
