Program Description

The Anesthesiology Residency Program is designed to provide residents with competence in anesthesiology, critical care, and pain management.

By the end of their training, residents are expected to:

  1. Conduct a preoperative medical history and perform a physical exam focused on anesthetic concerns.
  2. Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to anesthetic induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  3. Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to critical care and emergency management.
  4. Discuss the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to pain management.
  5. Present a clear and appropriate preoperative anesthesiology strategy for patient care.
  6. Recognize anesthetic options including general, regional, monitored anesthetic care, and procedural sedation.
  7. Recognize anesthetic risks and anesthetic complications.
  8. Discuss the principles of intravenous access and safe management of the airways.
  9. Manage patients with pain syndromes, patients in surgical settings, and patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
  10. Apply the principles of professional ethics and ethical decision-making.
  11. Practice continuous self-education.

Medical diploma, certified secondary school certificate, official updated university transcript, passing colloquium exam for Lebanese, IFOM exam, 3 recommendation letters, personal interview.

The curriculum combines hands-on experience with academic instruction across various settings.

Key areas of training include:
  • Preoperative assessment and core knowledge related to anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to anesthesia and critical care.
  • Anesthetic techniques include general, regional, and monitored care.
  • Clinical management of patients in various settings.
  • Technical skills such as intravenous access and airway management.
  • Didactic education through lectures, rounds, and conferences.
