Program Description

The Master of Arts in English Literature offers specialization courses in American and English literature and literary theories. Through it, the program seeks to achieve high levels of quality in education and scientific research.

  • Advanced Knowledge: Demonstrate a critical understanding of the historical and cultural backgrounds of global literatures.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to use literary theories to analyze and culturally comprehend complex texts.
  • Research Proficiency: Competence in using digital library databases to compile bibliographies and applying correct referencing formats.
  • Communication Skills: Formulate and articulate precise ideas in both speech and writing, moving beyond “rote memorization” toward independent thought.
  • Ethical Scholarship: Developing a sense of accountability and responsibility in academic work and adhering to research ethics. 

-Academic Background: Must hold a full-time bachelor’s degree in English Language and LiteratureComparative Literature, or Arabic Language and Literature from KSU or an accredited institution.

-Grade Point Average (GPA): A minimum cumulative GPA of “Very Good” (3.75 out of 5.0) or equivalent is required.

-English Proficiency:

  • An overall band score of at least 6.5 in the IELTS Academic test or its equivalent in the TOEFL-iBT.
  • A minimum score of 6.0 in the writing section of the IELTS Academic (or equivalent in TOEFL-iBT).

-Standardized Testing: A score of at least 65 in the General Aptitude Test (GAT) or a total score of 265 in the GRE-General test.

-Departmental Assessment: Applicants must pass a written entrance examination and, in some cases, an interview conducted by the department.

-Supporting Documents:

  • Statement of Purpose written in English outlining academic goals.
  • Two academic recommendation letters from professors.
