The program focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates are expected to master several key clinical and academic competencies:

Surgical Proficiency: Mastering both classic and state-of-the-art surgical procedures, including 3D techniques for facial reconstruction, corrective jaw surgeries, and TMJ reconstruction.

Advanced Diagnosis: Proficiency in using advanced diagnostic modalities for maxillofacial trauma, benign and malignant tumors, and dentofacial deformities.

Patient Management: Ability to clerk and prepare medically compromised patients for surgery, including coordinating with anesthesiology and managing peri-operative care.

Research & Innovation: Competence in scientific research methodology, enabling the student to plan, implement, and communicate findings through a peer-reviewed thesis.

Emergency Decision-Making: Rapid decision-making in medical emergencies within the dental clinic or operating theater.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry (BDS) from KSU or an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.25/5.
  • Clinical Status: Completion of a one-year internship and occupational classification from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • Language: A minimum score of 61 in TOEFL iBT or equivalent.
  • Testing: Passing a departmental written and applied examination.

First Year – Second Semester

Introduction to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – 3 Credit Hours
Anesthesia and Pain Control – 3 Credit Hours
Biostatistics – 2 Credit Hours
Research Ethics – 1 Credit Hour

Second Year – First Semester

Maxillofacial Trauma – 3 Credit Hours
Orthognathic Surgery – 3 Credit Hours
Clinical Rotation I (General Surgery) – 2 Credit Hours
