Bachelor of Science in Data Science

Graduates of the BSDSC degree program will be prepared to:

• demonstrate a solid understanding of the foundation of data science including statistics, mathematics and programming skills
• show proficiency in key programming languages like Python and R for data modeling and analysis
• employ statistical and analytical methods to analyze data and derive meaningful insights
• solve industry-specific problems using data science methods across various domains such as healthcare, finance and technology
• use research and critical thinking to address data-related issues, emphasizing continuous learning to keep pace with the field
• effectively communicate data insights to a variety of audiences, both in writing and verbally
• practice data science ethically, considering privacy, security and societal impacts

Formal admission to the program follows AUS undergraduate admission requirements. Students transferring into the program must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and permission of the Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics or the college Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs.

To qualify for graduation with a BSDSC degree, students must successfully complete a minimum of 122 credit hours, including a minimum of 48 credit hours in courses at the 300 level or above, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 as follows:

•  a minimum of 38 credit hours of general education requirements
• the innovation and entrepreneurship requirement of 3 credit hours
• a minimum of 69 credit hours of major requirements and major electives
• a minimum of 12 credit hours of free electives
