Program Description

The Department of Interior Design was established at the University of Petra in (1991), and since then it includes a group of specialized faculty members, as well as other supportive staff in the specialty, who work hard to develop and update plans and designs related to interior spaces. The program aims to achieve functional, spiritual, and social needs of people and users. Accordingly, the interior designer is concerned with ideas about functional and aesthetic aspects that are appropriate to the standard criteria, and compatible with the spirit of the times. Furthermore, the study plan was designed to meet the community’s need for environmental, health and aesthetic awareness through innovative and purposeful design elements.

Knowledge and Understanding Skills

  • K1: Interpret and analyze various types of engineering drawings and diagrams.

  • K2: Understand color schemes, their representation methods, and their applications within interior spaces.

  • K3: Identify design problems and needs, propose suitable solutions, and determine effective implementation methods.

  • K4: Recognize the key concepts, materials, styles, and techniques used in interior design.

Intellectual Skills

  • I1: Analyze project dimensions and requirements to develop optimal design solutions.

  • I2: Develop a comprehensive work plan that integrates functionality, aesthetics, and quality.

  • I3: Transform conceptual ideas into practical and visually applicable design solutions.

General and Transferable Skills

  • T1: Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders using professional and technical language within a team-oriented environment.

  • T2: Manage projects efficiently, overseeing all stages of implementation.

  • T3: Prepare technical reports and research papers in a professional and scientific manner.

Professional and Practical Skills

  • P1: Provide functional two- and three-dimensional design solutions manually and through specialized software.

  • P2: Apply principles of proportion, safety, health, and quality standards in interior design.

  • P3: Prepare and review design drawings, shop drawings, bills of quantities, and related specifications.

  • P4: Demonstrate proficiency in using appropriate design software to present, visualize, and execute interior design projects.

High school average minimum 60% for Jordanian students and 50% for non-Jordanians.
