Program Description

Diploma program in comparative literary studies exploring literature from comparative perspective across cultures and languages. Focuses on literary text analysis and contemporary critical theories.

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, acceptable GPA, English proficiency test, one recommendation letter

Curriculum
Students take a total of six courses and sit for an examination in a language of their choice other than English. Each diploma student is assigned a faculty advisor who will recommend courses and seminars, taking into consideration the vocational and intellectual interest of the student. Students can take up to six ECLT courses with at least four courses in ECLT and up to two graduate courses in specified departments and programs of HUSS/GAPP. These two basic models would allow one course to vary in kind:

• 6 ECLT courses. 18 cr.

Or

• 4 ECLT courses. 12 cr.
• 2 Humanities/Social Sciences courses relevant to comparative and interdisciplinary studies, approved by the student advisor and by the instructor of the course, from the following fields:

Arabic Literature (either in Arabic or in translation)
Gender and Women’s Studies
Forced Migration and Refugee Studies
International Human Rights Law
Sociology/Anthropology
