Bachelor of Jurisprudence and its Foundations

Upon completing the Bachelor’s program in Jurisprudence and its Foundations (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh), the student is expected to be able to:

• Recite six parts (Juz’) of the Holy Quran from memory while mastering the rules of Tajweed (proper pronunciation and intonation).

• Recite the “Forty Nawawi Hadiths” from memory and explain their meanings.

• Clarify the fundamental landmarks and concepts within the Islamic sciences.

• Deduce and explain the patterns (Sunan) of Islamic and human civilizational development.

• Interpret a suitable range of Sharia and heritage texts within the Islamic sciences accurately.

• Elucidate jurisprudential issues across the various chapters and branches of Islamic Fiqh.

• Compare Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary legislation regarding major issues in various fields.

• Derive legal rulings (Istinbat), compare existing opinions, and weigh them using a scientific methodology.

• Distinguish opinions characterized by moderation (Wasatiyyah) in jurisprudential discourse, adopting them while avoiding fanaticism or the exclusion of others.

• Conduct jurisprudential or interdisciplinary research that addresses various societal issues from a legal perspective.

Students who have obtained a high school certificate from independent schools in the State of Qatar (QSSC) with a minimum score of 70% of the final total for the last year, or its equivalent from other educational institutions as detailed in Chapter (4) of the Qatar University Student Handbook, are admitted and enrolled in the General Sharia Program.

To specialize in the “Bachelor of Jurisprudence and its Foundations” program, students must meet Qatar University’s requirements for declaring a major, which include declaring the major before completing 36 credit hours.

A student may not enroll in the “Bachelor of Jurisprudence and its Foundations” program until they have successfully passed the following courses:

• “Memorization and Recitation (Tajweed) 1” (QURS 201)

• “Introduction to Islamic Jurisprudence” (FIQH 108)
