Program Description

The PhD in Civil Engineering at King Saud University (KSU) is designed to cultivate advanced research capabilities and technical expertise in specialized areas of infrastructure and environmental engineering.

  • Advanced Problem Solving: The ability to apply analytical expertise to identify, analyze, and solve complex, non-traditional civil engineering problems.
  • System Design: Proficiency in designing advanced engineering systems that operate under realistic constraints (economic, environmental, social, and ethical) while effectively evaluating their performance.
  • Technical Mastery: Expertise in using advanced engineering techniques, modern software tools, and state-of-the-art instrumentation necessary for high-level professional practice and research.
  • Original Research: The capability to conduct independent, original research that contributes new knowledge to the field and can be published in high-impact academic journals.
  • Academic Leadership: Preparation for roles in academia, including the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor future engineers.
  • Ethical Responsibility: A deep understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities, particularly regarding sustainable development and infrastructure resilience.

The applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering) under the regular study system from King Saud University or from any other recognized institution, with a grade of no less than Very Good and a cumulative GPA of 3.75 out of 5 or its equivalent.

  • The applicant must hold a Master of Science degree under the regular study system in Civil Engineering from King Saud University or from any other recognized institution, with a grade of no less than Very Good (if the awarding university uses a grading system) and a cumulative GPA of 3.75 out of 5 or its equivalent.

  • The applicant must obtain a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS Academic test or its equivalent.

  • The applicant must obtain a minimum score of 65 in the General Aptitude Test for University Graduates or its equivalent.

STR601 – Numerical Methods in Structural Analysis – 3 Credit Hours
CON601 – Value Engineering – 3 Credit Hours
ENV601 – Advanced Wastewater Treatment – 3 Credit Hours
WRE601 – Theoretical Physical Hydrology – 3 Credit Hours
GEO601 – Soil Behavior – 3 Credit Hours

First Year – Second Semester
