Program Description

Paediatric Orthopaedics is one of the growing subspecialities in Orthopaedics as treatment of children’s Orthopaedic problems is different from adults. The aim of the programme is to provide the opportunity for fellows to drive maximum benefit from the diverse teaching clinical and research opportunities available at the participating centers, in order to become competent Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons that can deal with common paediatric orthopaedic problems efficiently.

  • Clinical Proficiency: Master the diagnosis and management of a wide range of pediatric musculoskeletal conditions, including congenital anomalies, developmental disorders, and neuromuscular diseases.
  • Surgical Competency: Perform complex operative procedures independently, including corrective surgeries for pediatric fractures, spinal deformities, and limb reconstructions.
  • Emergency Response: Distinguish and immediately manage high-priority pediatric orthopedic emergencies and traumatic injuries.
  • Diagnostic Interpretation: Integrate medical history with clinical findings and utilize advanced diagnostic tools such as laboratory tests and specialized imaging to formulate comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Holistic Patient Care: Evaluate challenges that impact a child’s participation in education or recreation and choose evidence-based postoperative interventions to maximize functional outcomes.
  • Scientific Research: Graduates are equipped to engage in joint research projects, particularly those addressing local community health issues, such as bone and joint disease prevalence.
  • Professionalism and Ethics: Fellows must demonstrate high standards of professional behavior, integrity, and ethics in multidisciplinary team settings.
  • Educational Leadership: Graduates are expected to contribute to the education of junior residents and staff, effectively passing on knowledge and fostering innovation in treatment.

 

  • Medical Degree: Possession of an MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Residency Completion: Successful completion of a residency training program in Orthopedic Surgery accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) or KSU.
  • Board Certification: Candidates must hold a Saudi Board certificate, Arab Board certificate, or an equivalent professional classification certificate in Orthopedic Surgery.
